A little controversyViews: 644

I’ve been “recovering” for a little over a week now. I feel so weak. I know it will take quite a bit of time before I’m “better.” My appetite is coming back pretty good. I’m eating quite a bit more. And my sweet tooth has returned! Except for cupcakes…I know its because I made that batch when I started chemo. But whenever I think about cupcakes I get queasy still. That includes any cake.

I didn’t get to do as much last week as I wanted, because it finally rained here! For 4 days. It made the grass grow quite a bit, which makes the horses and cows very happy. And us because we don’t have to buy hay for a little while. And everyone that I know works, so it seems like the only time I get out is if we meet someone for dinner. Which is fun, but I need to do stuff to get my strength up.

I went on a little road trip yesterday. One of my good friends went and moved away. All for a man! Geez! lol! She’s made multiple trips back to Houston, but yesterday was the first that I went out there. I must say I’m a bit jealous. Its beautiful out there! So we have big plans to go camping and fishing and such. She works at a cancer research facility. (this is the controversial part) She’s an animal caretaker. She works with the monkeys and chimps. She’s not involved in the research parts, just taking care of the animals. She was able to take me by there, and I got to see the chimps from a distance from inside the car. It was neat for me in some ways-it was one of the research facilities of where I got my treatment from. She tells me stories about the chimps. I said it sounds like working with a bunch of toddlers…that could kill you. Now, chimps are not used for research anymore, but they can’t be released. So they live out their lives there.

I don’t like animal research. But I think that’s the best we can do right now. Just like any of our treatments. “Acceptable risks.” One day we’ll get it right. So today I will honor all those who have gone before us-humans and animals. And continue to pray for that “some day.”

XOXO

Yes, I remember in 1994 how BAD EVERYTHING TASTED. The only thing I could stand was pretzels and milk. I worked in the office for Pepsi-Cola from 1973 to 1974 and I have ALWAYS LOVE PEPSI. Well, my Pepsis that I always loved so much tasted awful. I could not stand to drink them during the chemo. I completely quit drinking Pepsi or Coke several years ago and replaced them with water.
Ok, back to your question about my eyes. I was on Vigamox antibotic eye drops for the past 2 weeks to clear up the inflamation of my eyelids but I am off that now. I am on Predniselone Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension 1% and have been on it since June 2006. I have used it anywhere from once a day to four times a day. I also use Optive 3 or 4 times a day for my dry eye condition. My eyes were very bad before the surgery but my eyesight didn’t fluctuate the way it does now. My doctor just prescribed an oral antibotic Doxycycl Hycl, 20 mg, for maybe 6 months to see if that helps the Blepharitis condition. You said they told you to expect the changes for a year. Well, I have until next June and July to deal with the changes if that is the case. I hope yours soon begins to improve.
Thanks for the information, my friend. I hope you will be feelng much better very soon.
Hugs, Joyce

I wanted to thank you for your comment on my blog.
I have similar opinion on this issue as yours. I think the important key is not to forget to aprreciate everyone and everything (including animals) that have sacrificed for our journey to cure, as you said.
Having said that, have a great week!

Yuyu

The waiting is the hardest part! Yhank you for the MUCH needed support.

Sonia

Lisa,

I am glad that you are starting to feel stronger. I’m also happy that you are getting your sweet tooth back. Can you eat cookies? I love baking them but shouldn’t eat a whole batch, so I’d love to send some your way if you are interested.
